1 Prerequisites

Have full diamond armor + tools you want to upgrade Enchant BEFORE upgrading if possible — enchantments carry over, and diamond gear is cheaper to replace if things go wrong.
Diamond pickaxe (required to mine ancient debris)
Brew 2+ Fire Resistance potions (8:00) Nether wart + magma cream. Mining at lava level without fire res is how sets get deleted.
Pack: beds or TNT, food, blocks, flint & steel

2 Ancient Debris (need 16)

Tunnel to Y=15 in the Nether Ancient debris is most common at Y=8–22, peaking around Y=15.
Bed-mine or TNT-mine along your tunnel Beds explode when used in the Nether — place one at arm's length, click it, shield up. Cheap and effective. Debris is blast-proof, so explosions expose it without destroying it.
Collect 16–24 ancient debris 4 debris = 1 ingot, and each upgrade costs 1 ingot. Armor only: 16 debris. Armor + sword + pickaxe: 24 debris.
Smelt debris into netherite scrap, craft ingots 4 scrap + 4 gold ingots = 1 netherite ingot.

Loot a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
Copy the template ×6 Each copy costs 7 diamonds + 1 netherrack + the template. One find covers your whole kit.

4 The Upgrade

Craft a smithing table (2 iron + 4 planks)
Upgrade all 4 armor pieces Template + diamond piece + netherite ingot in the smithing table.
Upgrade sword and pickaxe (and more tools if you have ingots)
Stand in lava for 2 seconds because you can (kidding — netherite only resists fire, it doesn't make you immune)
